It might not be the most compact or even the lightest, but this camp chair is absurdly simple in the best way

One of the best part parts of outdoor recreation, in our humble opinion, is the part after the bike rides, the long hikes, the countless pow runs, the part where you get to kick back and relax. Tunes, snacks, and excited conversation are all essential components to consider in this pursuit, but the foundation of any restorative hang, that the rest is built upon, is a solid camping chair.

If you still haven’t made an upgrade from the big box store folding chair, consider the Tripster ($158) from Texas-based Trippy Outdoor—it's a two-piece, seven-ply wood camping chair made entirely in The Lone Star State.

Deploying the eight-pound plywood chair only takes just a couple seconds: remove the one-piece seat-and-leg portion from the main back support panel, then slide it right into the center opening. That’s it.

The design of the Tripster isn’t entirely original, and Trippy knows it, claiming an 8th-century chair design as inspiration. Beyond its wild simplicity and easy setup, its greatest strength is it's natural materials and better yet, ability to support up to 1,000 lbs (according to its makers).

The Tripster is heavy, and doesn't pack down the way most camping gear does (though it does have convenient carry handles), so consider it a camping chair that's best used in scenarios where you're traveling in a car with room to spare. Or even for backyard, front yard, parking lot, trailhead, etc hangs.

Fortunately, we have no shortage of camping chair recommendations where both of these issues are no concern.

And, in a world where the Grateful Dead has collaborated with everyone from Chaco to Nike, the flower child branding does feel a bit late to the party. Beyond these nitpicks, it’s hard to fault any piece of American-made outdoor gear.
